Dr Ullrich Klins, works as a Senior Technical Advisor for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in the GIZ-BioInnovation Africa Project in South Africa. His work focuses on the field of National Access and Benefit-Sharing (ABS) with regard to conservation and sustainable use of Biodiversity. This includes the coordination of private sector partnerships between South African SMMEs and European corporates to foster new and innovative value chains based on the biodiversity of South Africa. This is in connection with the fair benefit-sharing with indigenous communities and Traditional Knowledge Holders.
Prior he has been a project manager for private-public-dialogues working with the Southern Africa Trust for about 10 years, fostering inclusive business and SADC-wide dialogues between private sector, governments and civil society to jointly implement the SADC Development Strategy (RISDP) and the SADC Industrialisation Strategy Ullrich has developed complex tools for large companies to implement and assess their inclusive business practices. Prior to his job at the Southern Africa Trust, he was working with GIZ Pretoria in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility and Corporate Citizenship. He holds a PhD in Forestry.
